Creating Christmas Memories of My Own

Late last night I put my one of my favorite cakes in the oven. I  only make it at Christmas time.  It is a brown sugar pound cake and smells as wonderful when I am mixing it as it does when it is baking.  I am always asked for the recipe, so here it is!  Thanks for asking for it friend I have known the longest :) Brown Sugar Pound Cake Southern Living Magazine December 2004 1 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup shortening 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar 1 cup granulated sugar 6 large eggs 3 cups cake flour 1 t. baking powder 1 cup evaporated milk 2 t. vanilla extract 2 cups chopped pecans, toasted ( I have used walnuts which I think I prefer) Beat butter and shortening at medium speed. Starting to repeat

With the Penny Carnival at the Post Mills Library, the start of school and the coming Labor Day Parade on Monday and the baking of pies for it, we have started repeating events. Last year at this time we were just getting our feet wet and praying that the start of school went well and that everyone found at least one nice kid they could talk too. This year, Thomas happily bounced into 1st grade, James strutted into 4th and William made his way over to Thetford Academy to begin his journey there for 7th grade. All have found friends and have weathered the ups and downs of the previous year and I think we are all okay. I am on the verge of getting WAY to involved with volunteer activities at both schools but I figure, why not? It is almost a now or never moment. So - here I sit, thinking back over the last year and wondering how did it all go so fast? Oh, but I forgot about the hot air balloon that landed one night behind our house - great fun for us all! ...

Fun with Grandmama and Papa

Image
This past week my parents made a trip back to VT.  So happy to see them and get them back here during the summer months.  We had a great visit and made many great memories!  First off we celebrated Grandmama's birthday, a bit belated, but with a luscious lemon cake- yum and 10 lbs of red hots!! After the celebration was complete, we filled the week with a visit to the river, a drive to Bradford and a really cool store called FarmWay and we scouted out a 9 hole golf course William was itching to get back to, and they did get back! We had lunch at the Hungry Bear and then visited the Whippi Dip for ice cream :)  We toured around Lake Morey and enjoyed a fun dinner with neighbors. One night took us outside to see the stars - it is incredibly clear here and with no street lights, so many stars are visible. We ended the week with some school errands and a fun filled trip to Portland, Maine. birthday cake and cards! ice cream at the Whippi Dip! a fun "tre...
