This past week my parents made a trip back to VT. So happy to see them and get them back here during the summer months. We had a great visit and made many great memories! First off we celebrated Grandmama's birthday, a bit belated, but with a luscious lemon cake- yum and 10 lbs of red hots!! After the celebration was complete, we filled the week with a visit to the river, a drive to Bradford and a really cool store called FarmWay and we scouted out a 9 hole golf course William was itching to get back to, and they did get back! We had lunch at the Hungry Bear and then visited the Whippi Dip for ice cream :) We toured around Lake Morey and enjoyed a fun dinner with neighbors. One night took us outside to see the stars - it is incredibly clear here and with no street lights, so many stars are visible. We ended the week with some school errands and a fun filled trip to Portland, Maine.

Portland is a fantastic city! We started off heading into downtown Portland and ate at the Portland Pie Co. and then visited the Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum, just missing the 3 p.m. train ride. The boys enjoyed walking inside some old train cars as did we all. It was right on the water, so it was fun to see the boats as well. From there we headed up to the Eastern Promenade to see the park and the spectacular views of the Casco Bay and the surrounding islands. You could just see the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. And WOW, the views were really amazing. The streets are lined with Victorian houses and there is lots of open green space. Bill and I were both reminded of Atlantic Highlands/Highlands, NJ as well as Charleston and San Francisco while up here. The elevation is higher than Charleston but there was a lot of the same charm and it is an active port city. From here we made our way over to South Portland and Cape Elizabeth to see the Portland Head Light. What a lovely site. The shoreline is vastly different than that of the South. The rugged and jagged cliffs were a great attraction for the boys. The weather was glorious and we all had a wonderful day. We ended the trip with a great dinner at a waterfront restaurant in South Portland. It was a lovely spot. We returned Grandmama and Papa to their hotel for their early flight the next day and said our good-byes and returned to VT. Come back soon!

A "lobstah" roll |
What a wonderful exploration time with your family. I love that you found out about "lobstah." Now you know why coastal Maine is my and Jeff's favorite place in the world! That rocky coastline is always calling to me!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice that your parents are willing to come up to Vermont to be with you all. What a beautiful family you have!
Love the pictures!
