Milestones

We are fast approaching many milestones  - on June 13th the boys will finish their first year of school in VT.  With the completion of a year brings two major school milestones - Thomas will be going into 1st grade in the fall and William will be moving to middle school at Thetford Academy, the school where Bill is Head. James will be moving into 4th grade and that in itself is a wonderful thing, just not as momentous as 1st and Middle School.  (he will be 10 this year but that is for another time!)

We are also coming up on the 1 year anniversary of our move to Thetford, VT.  We arrived here on the evening of June 16th to a house with the front lights on, welcoming us.  I am not sure how to put into words the changes and experiences we have had.  Most all have been good. Some have been great and others wonderful.  The scenery and pace of life here is something to relish. Sure, you can speed it all up and have lots of "stuff to do" but the fact of the matter remains that at the end of the day it is still the end of the day. Still fighting not to get all caught up in it all.

Tonight I walked out to the pond behind our house to record the sound of the frogs.  I am guessing they are frogs - I can't imagine what else they would be! Also tonight, we went to the Thetford Academy Spring Sports Awards cookout and awards. William ran track with the Middle School team. The view of the mountains from the school were breath-taking. The sun was beginning to set and the clouds were beginning to cast shadows over the mountains. The air was crisp and clean. Kids were running around, eating and playing games outside. I wonder if the students at TA know how gloriously unique the setting of their school is, and their school for that matter?  I wonder - When do we realize how lucky we really are?

Also, today the boys had Field Day at school.  There was lots of talk about their old school's field day and how great it was and that this just wasn't going to be good.  How do they know?  I am happy to report that all signs show that this "new" field day was "so much fun".  They had ice cream during the day as part of it and got to sling shot water balloons - how bad could that be?? There was one run in with a raw egg but all recovered!

This has been a year of transition - we have all (almost) made it to the other side.  Some parts of it come quicker than others and some things may never quite click, but we have done it and done it together as a family.
