James has always been a creative soul.  Here are two poems he wrote recently. One he did for me for Mother's Day and the other for his brother to commiserate his broken arm. Enjoy! Highlights from an early trip to DC before break with James and Thomas and then onto Spring Break at the beach! William was in DC for the week on a school trip! We have now accomplished a "right of passage" for a first grader! First time on the National Mall! Washington Monument Air and Space Museum National Gallery Sculpture Garden Metal Tree Natural History Museum taking a well deserve rest! Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial Cherry Blossoms - we were there at their peak! Today the kids were suppose to be at school.  This afternoon, the younger two were to ski with their school ski program.  Instead, we have an ice day.  We are also on the heels of "winter break" also know as ski week.  Last year we had the fortune to take the international students up to Jay Peak and we all had a great time. We also had ALOT of snow - 26 inches to be exact!  This year we will be sticking around here and mixing fun with catch up stuff. I bought some un-opened daffodils yesterday and they opened up this morning. They always make me happy! Here are some highlights from the last month or so! The most exciting of which was Thomas turning 7! sporting some birthday clothes! James with a new head! Birthday Cake! Yum! Finally back on skis! Today while sorting through stuff in the attic in an effort to get rid of some of it and see what was still up there, I came across an un-opened box from our 2012 move. Now, this box has actually made it through a couple of moves.  It contains writing on all sides from various folks that have helped us from Rome, GA to Thetford, VT and in-between.  The box, according the the writing, has light fixtures from our old house in Rome, GA.  We liked them so much and they hadn't been hung in Rome, we decided to bring them along….and they have come along from Rome to Atlantic Highlands, NJ to Florence, SC to Hudson, OH and now to Thetford.  I think now we either need to have them hung or let them go. I would go take a photo of the lights and show them here, but Bill has taken my phone with the hopes of changing providers so we might actually have phones that ring in the house.  I'll keep you posted.  Off to find more stuff to give away! setting sun in early J...

Late last night I put my one of my favorite cakes in the oven. I  only make it at Christmas time.  It is a brown sugar pound cake and smells as wonderful when I am mixing it as it does when it is baking.  I am always asked for the recipe, so here it is!  Thanks for asking for it friend I have known the longest :) Brown Sugar Pound Cake Southern Living Magazine December 2004 1 cup butter, softened 1/2 cup shortening 2 cups firmly packed brown sugar 1 cup granulated sugar 6 large eggs 3 cups cake flour 1 t. baking powder 1 cup evaporated milk 2 t. vanilla extract 2 cups chopped pecans, toasted ( I have used walnuts which I think I prefer) Beat butter and shortening at medium speed. Gradually add sugars, beating until light and fluffy.  Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating just until the yellow yolk disappears. Sift together flour and baking powder;add to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. ...
