part two day one
Following Bill on the highway just into Mentor, OH I noticed that one of the tires on the trailer looked flat. Before I could get him on the phone, the tire blew. So there our little caravan sat on the side of the highway flashers blinking. The long and short of it is the boys and I wandered around Mentor looking for an auto parts store that we found just before closing at 8 p.m., to find a socket wrench set as the one with the car didn't fit the trailer. Finally just before the sun was setting Bill was able to get the lug nuts off and get the spare on. William and Bill then went on a wild goose chase to track down another tire but were given bad information so they drove 45 minutes out of the way for naught.
For those of you that might know the history of our beloved trailer over the last couple of years or so, this comes with the territory! Flashback to the night before leaving for Christmas break.....set to leave early in the morning, which is a minor miracle for us, trailer check begins late in the day before we leave. Check finds that the rear lights aren't working, but they have never really worked all together anyway. Rewiring begins and as we have a new car various other things happen - fuse blows in new car, all lights out, friend comes over to help with addition flashlights as it is now dark. Late into the evening all lights still out and trip planned in the early a.m. to the U-Haul place and then car dealership. So the 7 a.m. departure time ends up around 1 p.m. Thus is our life with this trailer.

Our destination was Bath, NY. Didn't seem so far away but by 1:30 a.m. and a chaotic day we were all ready for bed. Or so I thought! The boys, as with all things new, enjoyed checking out all aspects of the hotel room and even at 2 a.m. there is a lot going on. Each time a door opened and closed Trudy barked so we eventually settled her between the two beds. I think William and Bill made it there around 2:30 a.m. I tried to stay awake but just couldn't. After all they had survived thus far so I figured the two of them could manage the two cats and liter box just fine.
