Flu and Tulips

After a weekend trip away for me and William, we returned late last Monday night from a long day of travel and great times with friends.  Meeting him at the airport, I could see the swimmy (is that a word or a "mom"word?) eyes and dry cough were a sign of trouble...William ended up home sick the entire week.  Towards the end of the week and his 5th day out of school, I think we realized he had had a mild case of the flu.

To add to the already topsy-turvy week, Thomas turned SIX on January 23rd! We had a nice family dinner of Thomas's choice(breakfast dinner) and opened presents and had brownie ice cream cake.  It was a nice evening.

We made plans for his friend birthday party which would be on Sunday. I was running just a bit behind!

Friday, upon picking up Thomas and James at school, Thomas complained he was not feeling well and started crying. So, not normal for him. We got home took his temp and started the ibuprofen. I just knew it as the flu. Saturday Dr. appt. confirmed the flu and we started tamiflu.  Today, Monday, he is much better and could have headed back to school as he is fever free, but the cough and congestion are a bit heavy so one more day out for us both and a birthday party to reschedule!

I picked up some tulips at the store yesterday. They are so beautiful and happy. A reminder that even in the midst of the flu, it is nice to stop and sit and smell the flowers.

What do you notice?

It may not be a surprise to those that know me well, that I am a "notice-er".  I notice everything.  I can remember odd and unique details, people's faces, who gave us what for our wedding, stores I have been into and who I saw there, where I went for dinner a couple of years ago and what I ate, etc.  It can be a helpful trait and maybe a bit annoying. It worked well for me in the world of development and special events. It also works really well for me at home as I know where "everything" is in this house. If you ask me where your shoes, keys, favorite jacket, peanut butter, iPod, homework etc. are, it is likely I can direct you right to it/them.  Consequences of me having all this great knowledge is that others sometime forget to use their own brains.... Catching Up

I've finished my first official week of work and I am tired but energized! I am, however, looking forward to tomorrow when I can catch up on all the "things" that are awaiting me  -- especially the two 20 lb. boxes of tomatoes that I plan on canning tomorrow! Today James went on an all day field trip to the Tunbridge Worlds Fair.  I hear it is quite the event! He was excited about going but a bit hesitant as I wasn't able to accompany him. I think he will be happy to be able to tell us all about it and be our guide if we go back.  So far from the news of the day, the pig races were the big hit for him. I also bought my first pie pumpkins when I got the tomatoes.  Nothing says fall like rows of pumpkins. Here are some from Crossroads Farm where I often go.
