Feelings about Today...

It's been a challenging day, then I saw this.  I think it was meant for me  :)


William has arrived and we all went down to the Pier and the boys jumped off and then we saw this beautiful sunset.

A Realization and more to come....

This may not come as a surprise to you but a realization just smacked me in the face - my children are not southern. I never thought about having children that weren't southern.  Talking it out with Bill, I guess it is one of those realizations that kind of creeps up on you.  Our first child was born in New Jersey and then we moved back South. Our second and third were born in South Carolina and then we moved to Ohio.  Now we are in Vermont and the South seems so far away and frankly a bit miss understood. When people ask us where we are from the answer is always an interesting combination of places. My answer is always Atlanta. For now the kids seem to say they are "from" Ohio. I wonder if the way I am feeling might be similar to how people that come to the US from other countries feel when their children don't have the familiar accent or lose it while here?  I feel like a part of me is missing in them. The Closing of a Chapter - Sunset Beach, NC

We sold our home on Sunset Beach, NC  in March. It was a bittersweet decision but it had become challenging to get to SSB enough to enjoy it. Also, now living in the Caribbean sealed the deal. So, before all the restrictions of COVID-19 really came into effect, we closed on March 6th.  We were to leave our major things there to retrieve after the last rental in early August. Best laid plans on paper don't always work out! So, on April 10th movers with the help of our agent and the new owners, moved all of our things out of the house to storage. The trip we had planned as a family to see the house one last time and pack up is no longer.  I am sad but oddly content. I am so thankful for the 10 years of wonderful and precious memories we created there with grandparents, cousins, Aunts and Uncles and friends. Milestones

We are fast approaching many milestones  - on June 13th the boys will finish their first year of school in VT.  With the completion of a year brings two major school milestones - Thomas will be going into 1st grade in the fall and William will be moving to middle school at Thetford Academy, the school where Bill is Head. James will be moving into 4th grade and that in itself is a wonderful thing, just not as momentous as 1st and Middle School.  (he will be 10 this year but that is for another time!) We are also coming up on the 1 year anniversary of our move to Thetford, VT.  We arrived here on the evening of June 16th to a house with the front lights on, welcoming us.  I am not sure how to put into words the changes and experiences we have had.  Most all have been good. Some have been great and others wonderful.  The scenery and pace of life here is something to relish. Sure, you can speed it all up and have lots of "stuff to do" but the fact of the...
